MEXICAN LOW-FARE CARRIER AVOLAR AEROLINEAS ACCELERATES EXPANSION WITH SUPPORT FROM RADIXX INTERNATIONAL
As jet fuel prices climb, Radixx’s advanced, low-cost Internet-based airline reservations and management services become fundamental to Avolar’s growth & success
TIJUANA, B.C., MEXICO and ORLANDO, Fla., USA, May 8, 2005–Avolar Aerolineas, Mexico’s first successful low-cost airline, (www.Avolar.com.mx), today announced that, with the help of its passenger reservations and management provider Radixx International, Inc. (www.Radixx.com) it will accelerate its expansion into several new markets.
Avolar, which launched scheduled domestic airline operations on Sept. 16, 2005, utilizing Boeing 737 aircraft, has acquired two additional 737s and has quickened its pace of aircraft acquisitions through the summer travel season. Avolar operates these aircraft in a one-class configuration on an average of 170 weekly intra-Mexican flights, with plans to add a fourth 737 this month and a fifth 737 by July. Plans call for serving 20 Mexican destinations by mid-year. Utilizing these aircraft an average of 13 to 14 hours per day gives Avolar the ability to serve several new points that previously were accessible only via ground transportation.
Avolar will add five new destinations this month: Guadalajara (May 11), Culiacan, Durango, La Paz and Los Mochis (May 25). Avolar now serves Acapulco, Bajio/Leon, Colima, Cuernavaca, Hermosillo, Morelia, Oaxaca, Puebla, Tepic, Tijuana, Uruapan and Zihuatanejo.
“The dedicated professionals at Avolar are very thankful to the government of Mexico and to many individuals in the private sector, including our growing ranks of professional Mexican travel agents, in assisting us with the successful introduction and growth of this important new business entity,” said Fabricio Cojuc, chief executive of Avolar. “In addition, our use of Radixx International to ensure stable and easy availability and booking of our low-fare services to air travelers throughout Mexico is a testament to the ability of the Radixx Air Enterprise(TM) service to capably handle our agents and customers from the beginning of the reservations process all the way through to flight closeout.”
Additionally, Radixx International’s use of the Oracle® database and off-the-shelf hardware allows Avolar to serve some of the fastest growing economic regions in Mexico–all with an extremely small local technology footprint.
“We are very happy not only to be an integral part of a new airline’s success, but also to play a small but unique role in the growth of a neighboring country’s economy,” said Michael Barrera, vice president and chief technology officer for Radixx International. “For new low-cost carriers, as well as hybrid and traditional major world airlines, to grow or to continue their recovery, they must be able to implement major changes in how this rapidly perishable product–an airline seat–is sold. The simplicity and stability of an Internet-based reservations system such as Radixx Air Enterprise will be a major factor in the development of commercial air travel.”
Avolar now employs more than 200 people, including inflight, cockpit and maintenance professionals. Its parent company, Avolar Group, also recently opened in Tijuana one of the largest aircraft maintenance facilities in Latin America, capable of housing up to four 747 aircraft. A joint operation between Avolar and Hamilton Aerospace Technologies, a US FAA and JAA-approved aircraft repair station that specializes in the maintenance, engineering, and modification of large commercial jet transport aircraft owned by Global Aircraft Solutions, is offering a variety of third-party maintenance services to other airlines at the new hangar.
