The Radixx Air architecture is the key to its scalability. It combines an Oracle relational database management system on the backend with a Windows 2003 terminal services front end. Oracle is the most reliable and scalable database available today. Its portability is the key to its scalability. It can run on virtually any size or manufacture of system, from single processor Intel servers to the largest multi-processor and parallel processor mainframes. All major operating systems are supported. With the capability to cluster servers, adding servers to the cluster not only increases capacity and performance, but also provides inherent redundancy with real-time fail-over.
But it is not enough for the back end to be scalable. The architecture to support 30 million passenger segments per annum requires the establishment of farms of web servers and application servers. As users and volumes increase, additional servers are added to these farms, permitting the system to grow incrementally as the airline grows.
The fact that this is the fourth generation of Radixx Air systems means that the Radixx database has been refined and optimized so that a single processor Windows 2003 server can support several million passenger segments per year. For larger carriers, a multi-server Linux based cluster can be implemented that can support an estimated 30 to 50 million passenger segments per year. Radixx Air can also operate on Sun, IBM and HP platforms, should additional performance be needed. Radixx works closely with Oracle to optimize performance.
